No Confined Space Entry Permits Here..

with one comment

Taulia is a nice little neighborhood overlooking Molinopampa.  No electricity or sewage, and no one hauls propane tanks the 45mins up the hill to access the houses so everyone cooks with wood from right around the fields up there.  They are proud of a functioning water system that provides more then enough water for the public faucet and taps for each of the 4 houses.  When visiting the system yesterday, saw how they captured water from a spring right on the side of the mountain, then directly piped it into a 2 1/2m x 2 1/2m cement reservoir that we had to scrub all the silt and mud out.  This reservoir has been acting almost like a sedimentation tank clarifying the water a bit.

With plenty of rain and a shallow water table, who knows how deep these will end up being?

Trials of Teaching..

This seems to be the best way to discipline the children of Molinopampa,  I call it the Amazonas Human Table…

Just kidding, they opted to try this move out voluntarily.

Pumahermana, Ocol, San Jose..

with one comment

Three towns within the heart of Palm country out along the Chachapoyas-Mendoza highway.  Also, all within our municipality of Molinopampa.  As any Peruvian would explain, the country is broken up into 24 departments (states) and we live within Amazonas.  Our department is broken up into 7 provinces and we live within Chachapoyas province.  Our province has 21 districts (or municipalities) and we live in the capital of one of the larger ones…Molinopampa.  Within this district there are other localities or annexes…Pumahermana, Ocol, and San Jose are some of them and pretty darn nice, though still developing infrastructure.  Visited houses today to collect info for potential future projects.

Teaching English..

leave a comment »

Tough to know how much English the town kids (ages 6 – 16) will pick up after 2 months of classes with us during their allotted vacation time January & February.  At least we’re having a good time sharing our native language and forcing the kids to write down alot of important notes…which they will be able to use in the future.

Happy Birthday to my wife and life partner..

Fortunately they are the same person.  And fortunate to be together today for her birthday.  Got to hike up the hill and visit Taulia this morning, then celebrate with cake and slightly well-done pizza.

NSFW, Guinea Pig Murder..

with 4 comments

This was my first go at dispatching (aka, putting down) our friendly cuy (guinea pig) friends before prepping them for dinner.  The Chop Technique is and has been used by my hostfamily for years, but I think I can be a lot more quick and efficient with other neck snapping means.
