Handwashing: Using peer pressure goes a long way..

Big thanks to PCV Molly M. for suggesting to use primary school kids to do our teaching..  It worked out pretty well.  Andrea and I and Nurse Suzy gave the 6th grade class the idea and they went with it.  Dramas and demonstrations in each of the three pre-school classes and hopefully a bit of the useful knowledge stuck.

The real trick will be getting the classes to teach each other skills without any intervention from ourselves or the health post.

Give them a try, surprisingly soft and comfortable.

Will try to find something like this when back in the states.  Perfect for making a guest bedroom out of any space.

One of the largest if not the largest adobe cities in the world, pretty impressive and really very little has yet to be restored..

Plenty to see and nice maze throughout the sand city, designed to help foreign invaders get lost..

Many of the celebrations taking place up in the annex of Taulia, with Mass, and procession and dance and plenty of food..

Fortunately, there was a nice new latrine for all to take advantage of with up there.

And plenty of space to relax for those who were very tired after the night before.

Taulia Latrine Done and Constructed..

Just in time for the Virgen Asunta celebrations this week when most of Molinopampa will be trekking up the hill to this small community; Jobo, some of the neighbors and I were able to eventually haul all the materials up here and nail everything together.  Digging the pit was also tough…ended up being almost 2m deep through the very dense soil.  No idea how fast it will fill up with fecal matter during the fiestas patronales on Wednesday and Thursday.

Jobo checking the door frame.

Still need to fill in some rocks and soil right in front of the doorway, and probably try to make a nicer pathway to the entrance.

By painting the sheet metal green, the idea was that it would blend in a little bit with the background. Just hope folks notice the structure when it comes time to do the duty.
