Haircut and Med Post in Molinopampa
Fresh cut for S/. 3 here, that’s about $1.10. Enjoying the time in our new town nonetheless. Arrived last Wednesday and were able to touch base with plenty of good folks here. The kids in town have endless amounts of energy to play, and the adults have plenty of patience with our low level of Espanol. But the project ideas and ambition are endless and hopefully when the really rough rainy season starts next month, we’ll be prepared enough. Happy Holidays to all nonetheless, twas strange at first to not see any decorations or media about the season starting right after Thanksgiving, but we’re celebrating in our own fashion sublty over here.

El Circuito Mágico del Agua
Best and largest fountain complex in the world and very happy we came across this in the Parque de la Reserva in Lima.
Look for it on YouTube if the video above doesnt work.. really a pretty amazing lazer light spectacle entwined with huge complex fountains. Worth it for sure.

We are finally volunteers
Officially, swore in this night at the US ambassador’s house, and followed the event with anticuchos and ‘globo loco’ at our directors place. Good times, yet this is only the beginning.

Lima Burger King
Yes, it’s worth stopping by any of the recently popping up Burger Kings in Perú. Why? If not for the tasty, tasty ají sauce, do it for the exciting tug of war competitions.

Late night street art of Miraflores
A nice free activity around this Lima neighborhood on the coast. Plenty of expensive shopping and ‘tight-slots’ casinos too. It’s a nice place where people from around the world come to slightly splurge.

Chacapoyas Market
Decent deals on fruits, meats and other items which blend the mountains with the jungle, especially like the pitacaya.. very similar to the prickly pear cactus fruit.

Made it to Molinopampa
For a 1 1/2 day world wind tour of the small community and it’s residents, facilities, and town leaders. There’s alot to be commended for here, and so far we’ve noticed small potential for positive change. But then again that is the point of doing a diagnostic first and foremost during the 1st 3 months of service.. after that we volunteers eventually help get solid projects in place.
Interesting ‘drill’ we stubbled across yesterday. The town performs an earthquake simulation every 3 or 6 months where 20-30 kids are selected from the primarily school to be the injured victims of a natural disaster. The town ambulance and police truck race to the school, treat the kids, throw them in the back of the truck and take them to the health post for simulated triage. Best part is the nurses in training that are there to help.

Made it to Amazonas
Photos don’t do this place justice. Pretty dang nice around here and such a neat blend of mountain communities, jungle and farmland. More and more tourists and coming to the area year after year and hope it can remain relaxed and authentic in years to come. Myself and Andrea are very happy to finally be here, exactly where we were meant to be to start our true service time. Much to still learn about our town and colleges but knowledge will come in time.

trujillo y huanchaco
Right on the coast of La Libertad, outside the historical capital of Trujillo, Peruvian residents and visitors alike can benefit from the really mellow and affordable beach town of Huanchaco. Surfing is cheap and the hostels, and cafe’s are plentiful.

Trigopampa, it’s a suburb of Otuzco
…won’t you know. 1st few days of the Field based training going fine. Been mainly in a mellow valley town of Trigopampa to talk with the residents and start work on a couple stoves.
Saying in The larger town of Otuzco (11500 people, 2627m), which is known for ‘Virgen de la Puerta’, or a porcelain statue of Mary on the 2nd story of the town cathedral, visible to the entire town square. Thousands make pilgrimages to this statue every year on Dec 15.
